“I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it.” – Maya Angelou
This past Saturday we had our second free self-defense class at the St. Michaels YMCA. LeCarlo Beaty from Divas in Defense taught a great class that focused on situational awareness, getting out of holds and how to properly kick and punch. Thank you to all the women who attended the class! It was great to see a few women who came out to both classes. We are looking at dates for April and May and will be posting the next class time soon.
During the class, I mentioned a story about a woman who recently was able to defend herself from an attacker by utilizing the skills she learned in a self-defense class. I am so grateful that this woman was able to get out of the situation without being raped or killed and that she is speaking out about the importance of self-defense. I was incredibly lucky to escape my attacker without the having the skills set to truly defend myself. I know how close I was to my attack not going in my favor and that is what motivated me to start taking self-defense and now organize classes for others.
Huge Thank you to Benson and Mangold for sponsoring the class and to the St. Michaels YMCA for having us!
